Mr. Motter has over 48 years of experience in the printing industry in general, and has been directly involved with sublimation printing since 1994. He helped pioneer many of the early litho and digital dyestuffs and media now commonly used in sublimation. Recently becoming certified by PrUA as a “Certified Digital Color Professional” as well as certified with many rips, Mike is the principal of California-based “Sublimation Color Management.” He specializes in helping digital and lithographic printers adopt and succeed with sublimation printing operations. He also handles large litho sublimation runs in the hundreds of thousands. He has set up many first-time sublimation printing operations within existing litho printing companies using closed-loop color management processes which allows for “shared appearance” across platforms and companies. He also consults for third-party ink companies and paper companies involved in the rapidly changing sublimation market.
Sunday, 11:00 a.m. – 11:50 a.m. Tame the Color Management and Sublimation Printing Lions!
Comparing conventional printing to sublimation printing to is like comparing kittens to lions. A kitten (conventional printing) is manageable, while a lion (sublimation printing) can quickly get out of hand. To help keep your lion tamed, this session will delve into the sublimation process— from start to finish—concentrating on process control and color management from pre-press to heat presses and fixation. We’ll also demonstrate actual sublimation transfer, so you can see the process first hand and reinforce the concepts presented!
